Job Description
Description of Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesFairmont State University seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning in August 2027 in our small, student-centered, collaborative, and ACS-approved chemistry program. Applicants must have a Ph.D. in biochemistry or closely related field prior to the start date of the position. The successful applicant will have the primary responsibility of teaching foundational biochemistry and advanced biochemistry courses and laboratories, and is expected to collaborate with department faculty in the development of a biochemistry curriculum for a Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry. We anticipate additional teaching responsibilities for this position to include, but not limited to, introductory chemistry lectures and laboratories for both majors and non-majors.
Chemistry faculty teach 15 contact hours per semester (including laboratories). Faculty also mentor students in undergraduate student projects and clubs, serve on university and college committees, rotationally serve as chemistry program coordinator, help maintain instrumentation and shared laboratory space, conduct program and course assessment, and participate in department and program activities. Scholarship is expected and can take many forms. Preference will be giving to candidates with undergraduate teaching experience. We encourage applications from underrepresented groups. A demonstrated commitment to improving access to higher education for disadvantaged students through teaching or mentoring activities is desired.
