Job Summary

 

A post-doctoral position is available in the Department of Pathology and the Georgia Cancer Center. We seek an ambitious and highly motivated candidate looking to gain training in leadership, scientific writing, and experimental skills necessary to excel in a scientific career in industry or academia. The post-doctoral fellow will lead projects under the general guidance of the PI to make significant and creative contributions to basic and translational cancer research.  The fellow will conduct studies investigating mechanisms and therapeutic potential of candidate oncological targets. Studies will utilize molecular genetics and chemical genetic approaches in vitro, preclinical mouse models and patient derived models to assess therapeutic potential of targets. The fellow will be expected to mentor graduate students and junior lab members. The fellow is expected to interact with basic scientists, oncologists, medicinal chemists, bioinformaticians, pathologists, and other researchers in a highly collaborative environment to move the projects forward. Experience with standard molecular biology techniques as well as experience with in vivo mouse models is required.

 

Responsibilities

 

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Research & Laboratory Work 
Execute complex experimental protocols independently, perform molecular, cellular, biochemical, or in vivo procedures with precision. 
Maintain detailed and accurate records, document experiments, results, and deviations in electronic lab notebooks. 
Analyze and interpret data, use statistical tools, bioinformatics platforms, and scientific software to evaluate results. 
Troubleshoot experiments, identify technical issues, optimize protocols, and propose alternative approaches. 
Operate specialized equipment, centrifuges, PCR machines, flow cytometers, microscopes, biosafety cabinets, etc. 
Follow biosafety and chemical safety procedures, adhere to BSL 2/BSL 3 rules, PPE requirements, and hazardous material handling.
Cognitive & Professional Skills 
Critical thinking and problem-solving evaluate hypotheses, design experiments, and interpret complex datasets.
Scientific communication  write manuscripts, grants, abstracts; present findings at meetings; communicate with collaborators. 
Project management, plan timelines, prioritize tasks, manage multiple experiments simultaneously. 
Collaboration and teamwork, work effectively with faculty, students, technicians, and cross-disciplinary teams. 
Adaptability, adjust to evolving project needs, new technologies, and unexpected experimental outcomes.
Administration & Compliance 
Maintain regulatory compliance, IRB/IACUC protocols, chemical inventories, safety training, data integrity standards. 
Manage research materials, ordering supplies, maintaining stocks, coordinating with core facilities. 
Mentor junior trainees, guide graduate students, undergraduates, or technicians in experimental 
design and lab etiquette.

Perform other related duties as assigned.
 

Required Qualifications

 

Ph.D. degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

 

Shift: Days/M-F (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary to be commensurate with the qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum midpoint) of the position.

Recruitment Period: 8/20/26 - Until Filled
