What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a highly skilled Systems Engineer to support the operational application of systems engineering within the Division Office. This role focuses on developing, maintaining, and utilizing tools for requirement and risk management, verification and validation, and logistics and deployment activities throughout the full product lifecycle. The selected candidate will ensure that all technical areas progress according to schedule in an integrated development process, working collaboratively with cross-disciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver effective, integrated system solutions.

You will serve as a trusted partner to the Chief of Staff, supporting executive operations through strategic coordination, organizational reporting, governance, and continuous improvement initiatives. The role drives organizational effectiveness by enabling informed leadership decision-making, optimizing business processes, and facilitating complex cross-functional initiatives.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Employ a structured engineering approach to model interactions between system components and ensure integration across subsystems.
  • Document and track component and system-level performance requirements, developing acceptance criteria for subsystems and the overall system.
  • Track project risks and collaborate with stakeholders to develop mitigation and contingency plans.
  • Evaluate competing characteristics between system elements to determine the most effective integrated system solution.
  • Evaluate, test, and analyze system functionality and subsystem contributions to ensure system performance requirements and acceptance criteria are met.
  • Interface with customers and development teams to ensure system expectations and requirements are met.
  • Develop logistics and deployment plans, including preparation of training resources.
  • Serve as a key liaison supporting the Chief of Staff in coordinating division-wide initiatives across multiple teams and departments.
  • Develop executive briefing materials, decision-support packages, and leadership communications, synthesizing complex information into concise, actionable insights for senior leaders and key stakeholders.
  • Facilitate division governance processes, including meeting planning, agenda development, documentation of decisions, and tracking actions.
  • Support strategic planning efforts by monitoring progress, identifying risks and dependencies, and driving continuous improvement opportunities.
  • Manage executive reporting and performance metrics, overseeing quarterly, annual, and ad hoc reporting to communicate organizational progress and business performance.
  • Analyze operational data, trends, and key performance indicators to provide data-driven recommendations supporting executive decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among internal organizations and mission partners to ensure alignment, accountability, and timely execution of division priorities.
  • Lead planning and execution of executive-level meetings, leadership engagements, and division-wide events, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities and organizational objectives.
  • Maintain and improve tools and systems used for tracking initiatives and metrics (e.g., ServiceNow, Power BI).
  • Exercise sound judgment and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and trust.

The selected applicant can work a combination of onsite and offsite work. The selected applicant must live within a reasonable distance for commuting to the assigned work location when necessary.

Salary Range:

$87,400 - $168,800

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor¿s degree in Engineering, Systems Engineering, Business, Public Administration, Organizational Leadership, Project Management, or a related field. Equivalent experience in lieu of degree must be directly related experience that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
  • Experience in the following:
  • Applying systems engineering principles and tools to support requirement management, risk management, verification and validation, and logistics activities.
  • Coordinating complex, cross-functional initiatives and supporting executive leadership.
  • Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into concise executive reports, dashboards, and recommendations.
  • Strong facilitation, organizational, and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to partner with customers and technically direct the efforts of cross-disciplinary teams.
  • Ability to review and understand end-to-end work processes and system lifecycle management.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Five (5) or more years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent.
  • Experience with Lean/Six Sigma or Change Management methodologies.
  • Proficiency with tools such as ServiceNow, Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Project, and SharePoint.
  • Experience in executive communications, organizational effectiveness, and strategic planning.
  • Good understanding of customer needs, system concepts of operations, and mission capabilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to develop executive-level presentations, briefings, and correspondence.
  • Active DOE Q-level security clearance or equivalent (e.g., DOD Top Secret).

The Office of the Chief of Staff for Division 4000 Infrastructure & Operations at Sandia National Laboratories drives strategic projects and continuous improvement initiatives that support the laboratory¿s mission-critical infrastructure.
