Job Description

Summary

We are a new laboratory studying the genetic and immunological causes of human disease, with a focus on immune deficiency and immune This individal will be responsible for performing experiments using Drosophila melanogaster in Dr. Shinya Yamamoto's lab in the Department of Molecular & Human Genetics at Baylor College of Medicine. The lab is physically located in the Jan and Dan Duncan Neurological Research Institute and uses fruit flies to study a variety of human diseases. The individual selected for this position will be primarily be responsible for fly husbandry and genetic crosses.

Job Duties

  • Maintains Drosophila melanogaster stocks and performs genetic crosses.
  • Flips vials of stocks in a timely manner.
  • Collect specific male and female flies.
  • Carry out specific genetic crosses and core the results based on genetic markers.
  • Make sure that the stocks are in good shape and the crosses they perform and score are accurate.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experiences in working with Drosophila melanogaster is prefered but not required.

Work Authorization Requirement:
