Job Description

Summary

The Eagen Lab at Baylor College of Medicine seeks a full-time Research Technician III. This individual will run daily lab operations (ordering, organization, basic equipment upkeep) and support foundational wet-lab experiments (mammalian cell culture and molecular cloning) studying how oncogenic fusion proteins reprogram chromatin and gene regulation in aggressive cancers. This role is ideal for a highly organized, dependable teammate who enjoys keeping a lab running smoothly while building hands-on research skills in cell and molecular biology.

The Eagen Lab investigates how fusion oncoproteins drive aggressive cancers at the molecular level. Our work has shown that the BRD4-NUT fusion oncoprotein misfolds DNA to activate oncogenic transcriptional programs. The lab has published in journals including Molecular Cell, Nature Genetics, Nature Cell Biology, and Cancer Research. The lab is supported by the National Cancer Institute, the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, and philanthropic organizations.

Baylor College of Medicine is located in the Texas Medical Center, the world’s largest biomedical campus, and provides an exceptionally collaborative research environment. The laboratory emphasizes scientific independence, rigor, and professional development, with dedicated support for developing research skills and advancing career goals.

Job Duties

  • Manage ordering, inventory, and stocking of common reagents and consumables.
  • Maintain lab organization (benches, shared reagents, freezer maps) and coordinate routine upkeep.
  • Help track equipment maintenance and coordinate service visits as needed.
  • Support onboarding logistics for new lab members (basic setup, shared lab practices).
  • Follow institutional safety policies and maintain compliance with SOPs.
  • Perform routine mammalian cell culture and basic cell assays (e.g., passaging, transfection).
  • Perform molecular biology workflows (PCR, plasmid prep, cloning, sequence verification; DNA/RNA/protein isolation as needed).
  • Maintain accurate records and communicate progress/issues to the team.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in basic science or a related field.
  • Experience with mammalian cell culture and/or basic cloning workflows.
  • Proven reliability with documentation, task tracking, and multi-step protocols.
  • Collaborative, proactive communication style.
