Position Summary:

Under the direction of a patient transportation supervisor or manager, the Patient Transport Tech will transport patients to various areas of the Medical Center. A patient transporter is also responsible for transporting patient care equipment in a 24-hour operation, 7 days a week. Functions include positioning, transferring and transporting patients to and from various departments or locations by wheelchair, bed, gurney or ambulette. This involves lifting, turning, transferring and repositioning patients requiring moderate assistance to total assistance. There may be limited clerical duties for the transport function. Other role requirements may include patient care equipment movement, specimens, maintenance, and cleaning or disinfection, assisting in the management of decedent affairs, and other activities as directed. Assignments may vary between day and night shift, and participation in weekend coverage is required.

As a successful candidate, you will:

•Transports patients to and from nursing units and ancillary departments as requested by wheelchair, gurney, bed and ambulette.

•Use lift and safety equipment to transfer patients to and from different surfaces i.e., beds, wheelchairs, gurneys, automobile, or transportation service vehicle.

•Sets up orthopedic frames, traction, trapeze following doctor’s orders.

•Transports deceased to body holding area, releases deceased from body holding when requested.

•Transferring and repositioning patients requiring moderate to total assistance as needed.

•Assist with family members, visitors and/or vendors as requested.

•Assist with supply requests as needed.

•Transport medical records, CDs, X-rays, patient care equipment, specimens, mail, reports, and other materials in response to requests or pages.

•Cleaning and disinfection of patient care equipment.

Follows established City of Hope and department policies, procedures, objectives, performance improvement, attendance, safety, environmental, and infection control guidelines, including adherence to the workplace code of Conduct and Compliance Plan.

Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Your qualifications should include:

Minimum Education: High School diploma, GED or equivalent experience.

Minimum Experience: One year in a similar healthcare position or customer service field.

Req. Certification/Licensure: BLS from American Heart Association obtained within three weeks of hire, and Current, valid Driver’s license

Preferred Education: Understands basic medical terminology, able to communicate clearly and succinctly with patients and the entire care team. Transport or lift team experience

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $22.73 - $29.71 / hour
