In this role, you will have the opportunity to engage in a variety of exciting tasks, including:

  • Test Radar hardware in a laboratory environment
  • Design, analyze, and develop RF/microwave circuits, subsystems, and modules
  • Discuss technical and programmatic requirements with customers
  • Deliver hardware within schedule and budgetary constraints

Due to the nature of the job, the selected candidate must be able to work onsite.

Salary Range:

$114,000 - $227,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline and five (5) years of directly relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of directly relevant education and engineering or scientific experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform independent research and development.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

The ideal R&D S&E Microwave and Sensor Engineering candidate for Sandia National Laboratories will in addition possess the following:

  • Graduate degree in Electrical Engineering or a highly related field where an independent research project was a graduation requirement (e.g., independent project, thesis, or dissertation).
  • Laboratory skills and knowledge of RF and digital test equipment.
  • Knowledge of RF, Digital Communications, Electronic Warfare, and Cyber Security systems and principles.
  • Ability to work successfully in a dynamic, interdisciplinary, teaming environment.

Also, for this posting we are seeking individuals with the following experience:

  • Experience with design and characterization of Ku-band RF systems
  • Experience in one or more of the following subject areas:
  • RF/microwave circuit or system design
  • Commercial RF/microwave circuit simulation in ADS, Microwave Office, Genesys, SENTRI, IE3D, MATLAB, or other programming languages (C/C++, Python, Java, Fortran)
  • Labview
  • Teststand
  • Use of RF/microwave test equipment (network analysis, spectrum analysis, and noise measurement
  • Experience in the design, fabrication, and testing of:
  • RF communications architectures
  • RF frontends
  • Low noise amplifiers
  • Power amplifiers
  • Phase locked loops and synthesizers
  • Mixers, filters, or other RF components
  • Experience in RF circuit layout and RF PCB manufacturing techniques
  • Experience with radar system development and radar hardware architectures
  • Experience in effectively communicating complex technical issues to customers and stakeholders.
  • An active DOE Q-level security clearance.

About Our Team:

The Advanced Radar and Future Fuzing Department is the Nation's premier Advanced and Exploratory (A&E) design team for Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Fuzes, with a focus on radar systems. We are responsible for generating new modular fuze concepts, designs, prototypes, tests, and analyses for next generation ND systems. The department teams extensively with other Sandia organizations to support National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA), Navy, and Air Force customers. We execute R&D for fuzing systems from the RF component level circuit design to Radar system level design and analysis. The Department also provides ongoing support to ND Programs of Record (W88 ALT370, Mk21 AFA, B61-12, W93) through close partnership with our sister Department 5353, Radar Fuzing.

Posting Duration:
