Plumber

Department: Facility Services
Location: Oklahoma City, OK
Position Overview & Responsibilities
The OMRF Facilities department is seeking a skilled and licensed journeyman plumber to install, maintain, inspect, and repair plumbing systems, fixtures, and equipment that support research and facility operations. This role ensures safe and efficient operations by responding to service requests, performing preventive maintenance, and working closely with other trades and technical staff to minimize downtime and support scientific activities. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Installing, maintaining, and repairing pipes, fittings, and plumbing fixtures.
  • Inspecting plumbing systems and identifying issues using appropriate testing equipment.
  • Interpreting blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications.
  • Performing preventive maintenance on plumbing systems and documenting work in the CMMS (WebTMA).
  • Responding promptly to emergency plumbing calls and troubleshooting issues independently or as part of a team.
  • Ensuring compliance with plumbing codes, safety regulations, and institutional standards.
  • Collaborating with Facilities staff, lab personnel, and contractors as needed for project work.
  • Maintaining tools, equipment, and a clean, organized workspace.
  • Providing input on system upgrades, renovations, and equipment selections.
  • Participating in on-call rotation if applicable.

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid journeyman plumber's license in the state of Oklahoma.
  • 5+ years of plumbing experience, preferably in a commercial, institutional, or healthcare/research environment.
  • Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, materials, and best practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using plumbing tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with maintenance management systems (e.g., WebTMA) is a plus.
  • Good communication skills and a customer-focused attitude.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supervising or leading a team, including assigning tasks and coordinating work schedules.
  • Demonstrated ability to respond to plumbing-related emergencies in high-pressure or time-sensitive environments.
  • Proven ability to assess, prioritize, and correct problems in environments with deferred maintenance or unresolved issues-self-starters will thrive in this position.
