In collaboration with the leader, The Manager, Events is responsible for driving strategy and leading the execution team for a defined set of City of Hope audience facing events, targeting the City of Hope donors, prospects and philanthropy industries and delivered as physical, virtual or hybrid experiences. The Manager will advise and strategize in developing event strategies, which drives a communication continuum of connected experiences that meet business goals. This person will identify, strategize and shape the future of on campus and high touch events to meet a high-level donor experience. The Manager will be versed in multi-media platforms, creative experiential concepts, project coordination and technical event production. These events take place on the Duarte Campus, the OC Campus, in the surrounding Los Angeles area and nationally across geographical regions and across the City of Hope network. The manager works directly with philanthropy, multiple key stakeholders, supporters and leadership to define and execute the overall interactive audience experience. This role will also work closely with Marketing and Communications, external vendors, multi-media teams, Visitor Services, the Speaker Bureau Program, faculty, executives, board members, donors, other institutions to ensure each event raises City of Hope’s brand, messaging, and program content to ensure audience engagement.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Lead, design and drive event strategy targeting all City of Hope audiences including leadership, donors, supporters, government officials, and others. Identify and facilitate discussion and decisions about issues affecting events and ensuring to lead, design, drive, and execute events including the design and production of each activity meeting the objectives of the audience in a virtual, live or hybrid mode.
  • Lead discussions and decision-making about strategies, opportunities, potential conflicts and other issues related to the audience experience at events.

Manage a team:

    • Lead the team with a focus on accountability, best practices and collaboration. The incumbent will demonstrate an ability to motivate staff toward adherence to key performance indicators and to maintain a productive culture.
    • Oversee management of staff and act as mentor for all content and professional development areas.
    • Conduct ongoing conversations regarding performance in relation to metrics/key performance indicators and articulating opportunities for employees’ growth and professional development in a thoughtful manner.
    • Demonstrate an ability to solve problems, overcome hurdles, and navigate sensitive issues with discretion, tact and strong communication skills.
    • Provide leadership throughout employees’ tenure, from interviewing and making thoughtful hiring decisions, and provide foundational onboarding to new employees, to ensure high employee retention and engagement.
    • Responsible for oversight and ensuring a positive working relationship between other City of Hope Departments and employees.
    • Responsible for meeting established performance goals for team.

  • Strategic counsel in the development of briefings, talking points, ensuring leadership and all event participants are appropriately briefed with the information and guidance needed to engage stakeholders to achieve the desired outcome.
  • Design and develop, in partnership with our colleagues, the event messaging platforms that includes tenets of strategic vision, core messages and a case for support that reflect “one City of Hope”.
  • Define and align event goals with leadership objectives and ensure they are achieved.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 7 -10 years in event planning
  • 2 years of experience in a leadership capacity.
    Event, Meeting and Hospitality, Protocol, diplomacy and Etiquette, Stakeholder and Audience Engagement, Speakers Bureau, Live and Virtual Events production and marketing.

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $48.78 - $81.47 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
