Eastern Connecticut State University is accepting applications for the positions of Senior System Administrator. Eastern is in Willimantic Connecticut which is 1.5 hours from Boston and 2 Hours from New York City. Position Summary: The incumbent of this position is responsible for supporting the research, design, implementation, and operation of the ECSU enterprise computing infrastructure, including servers, storage devices, and related products with a n installed or embedded Windows or Linux family of operating systems.

Position Responsibilities: Under the direction of the Director of Technical Services, the Senior System Administrator manages, plans, and implements complex highly available components incorporated within the university’s enterprise computing infrastructure. Additionally, they manage, plan, and implement multi-tier server infrastructure encompassing installation, configuration, optimization, administration, documentation, support, and troubleshooting. The incumbent provides leadership in developing and implementing operational standards and technologies to ensure continued high levels of availability on all servers and subsystems relating to them. The position requires staying current with products, features, and issues surrounding server hardware, operating systems, and storage technologies, as well as maintaining a solid understanding of cyber security standards and practices and how they pertain to enterprise computing infrastructure. The successful candidate will be able to provide oversight, mentoring, and training to junior level staff.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, computer networking, or a related subject.
Five years of demonstrated experience with the planning, installation, and operation of enterprise grade servers and infrastructure and storage area network products.
Five years of demonstrated experience with the planning, installation, and operation of virtualized server environments.
Demonstrated ability to write and debug scripts using a variety of languages and tools.
One year of demonstrated experience overseeing junior staff.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Credentials and/or experience substantially comparable to the above may also be considered.
