  • Ensure customer needs are satisfied by managing and coordinating specific deliverables, budgets, schedules, and staffing requirements.
  • Oversee the work of engineers and drafters, making sure that every model and drawing is high quality, professional and adheres to applicable project standards.
  • Impact cross-cut technology areas and corporate central initiatives such as Digital Engineering.
  • Team closely with peers and partners across the Labs to deliver on commitments.
  • Be a part of a diverse team of 15 integrated departments in Design Engineering that execute together – whether from integrated hiring to rapid response for emerging technical issues.

About Our Team:

Design Engineering provides mechanical and electrical design definition services for our weapon and non-weapon customers. The design staff in organization 2960 is involved in all aspects of the life-cycle design process from model creation through simulation and analysis. Design Engineering is also responsible for providing access to and configuration management of engineering information.

Department 2961 provides Mechanical Computer Aided Design (MCAD) engineering and design services to support Nuclear Weapon (NW) and Sandia Partnership Projects (SPP). Specifically, we specialize in the creation, management, and release of CAD definition to support product realization teams and product definition requirements implementing Model Based Definition (MBD). We deliver high quality 3D solid models and drawings, and apply tolerance analysis, design for manufacturability and inspection, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) expertise to satisfy design and engineering intent. Our staff are vital members of various PRT’s accountable for the design and product definition for NW and SPP systems.

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
