What Your Job Will Be Like:

We are seeking a R&D Systems Engineering Analyst to join our Infrastructure and Operations team. Our team is part of the broader Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Program Management Offices (PMO) that are responsible for managing NNSA funding that supports Nuclear Deterrence capabilities and programs across Sandia. Specifically, Group 430 has responsibility for managing funding associated with the operation, maintenance, and sustainment of key ND capabilities, facilities, and equipment as well as participating within the NNSA Integrated Planning Group (IPG) to prepare Sandia-specific content for the annual Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan (SSMP) and collecting and sharing Sandia programmatic equipment needs with the NNSA Programmatic Equipment Recapitalization Working Group (PRWG). We partner closely with other parts of the ND PMO, with Facilities organizations that plan and perform maintenance and other sustainment projects, and with the ND line organizations that implement work within our program.

The Analyst will primarily lead activities supporting the development and release of the NNSA Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan (SSMP). The SSMP is a high-level document that defines the 25-year Program of Record for Defense Programs based on the Future Years Nuclear Security Program (FYNSP) and is released to Congress annually. The successful candidate will work across the laboratory to collect, validate, and combine annual content as well as represent Sandia at periodic IPG meetings along with the Group 430 Senior Manager. The successful candidate will be expected to review the current internal SSMP legacy process and actively look for opportunities for improvement.

This position offers broad exposure to a diverse range of Nuclear Deterrence work across Sandia. The Analyst may also participate in other aspects of Department 0431 to include the coordination of project updates (data collection and analysis) in support of monthly, quarterly and annual reporting requirements, supporting the 430/431 Management team in crafting rapid responses to requests from NNSA and PMO executive leadership, recognizing common themes of accomplishments, risks, and issues, and generating summary reporting for the I&O Program that is shared internally with Program Office leadership and externally with NNSA.

Qualifications We Require:

  • BS or MS in engineering or science; applicants with equivalent experience welcome
  • Minimum of five years’ of relevant experience, plus at least two of those years working in Nuclear Deterrence
  • This position may require some travel to support business needs and to enrich the experience of this position but is flexible
  • Proven ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and compellingly in oral and written forms
  • DOE Q security clearance required to start

Qualifications We Desire:

  • High political acumen and cross-laboratory and cross-site partnering skills
  • Excellent information management and presentation skills
  • Nuclear Weapons system or component development and sustainment experience
  • Experience with nuclear weapons development and qualification processes
  • Ability to work in a dynamic, sometimes ambiguous environment
  • Awareness of, or experience working with, NNSA Federal Program Managers and Engineers
  • Experience in mining, organizing, and analyzing data
  • Proven expertise in preparing and delivering succinct, informative position/decision papers and presentations
  • Active DOE Q security clearance or DOD equivalent

About Our Team:

The Weapons Infrastructure Program Office is accountable for the programmatic management of Sandia’s Infrastructure & Operations, Real Property Maintenance, and Programmatic Equipment recapitalization budgets. The office is responsible for Operations of Facilities, Real Property Maintenance, and Recapitalization portfolios under NA-90 as well as Programmatic Equipment Recapitalization efforts within the NA-193 Non-Nuclear Component Modernization (NNCM) and Capability Based Investment (CBI) portfolios. A significant focus within these programs is on supporting Sandia’s Major Environmental Test Facilities (METF), Accelerator Complex (Saturn, HERMES, SPHINX), Reactor Facilities (ACRR), Tonopah Test Range (TTR), Microsystems Engineering Science and Applications (MESA), Primary Standards Laboratory (PSL), and Electrical Sciences (ES) capabilities.

In addition, Organization 431, I&O Program Integration, is responsible for Sandia’s Nuclear Deterrence (ND) Programmatic Equipment Database and manages its annual programmatic equipment data call in support of the NNSA Programmatic Recapitalization Working Group (PRWG). The department is also responsible for working closely with the NNSA’s Integrated Planning Group (IPG) in the development of Sandia’s annual guidance to the NNSA’s Stockpile Stewardship and Management Plan (SSMP).

Posting Duration:

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Security Clearance:

Position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q security clearance to start, or equivalent active security clearance with another U.S. government agency (e.g., DOD). Sandia is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

EEO:

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or veteran status and any other protected class under state or federal law.

NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:

If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs.

If you have a MedPED and you are selected for an on-site interview at Sandia National Laboratories, there may be additional steps necessary to ensure compliance with NNSA security requirements prior to the interview date.
