Job Description

Job Summary:

  • The BMT-CI Data Associate is responsible for accurately abstracting complex medical information of patients, from internal and external EMR into Moffitt’s proprietary database focusing on proficiently determining and reporting the statuses of patients pre- and post-transplant. Provides accurate cancer, and blood and marrow transplantation data selection from medical, diagnostic, and therapeutic records in compliance with standards of the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Registry (CIBMTR), the National Marrow Donors Program (NMDP), and internal BMT program goals.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Demonstrates strong clinical data abstraction and/or data management experience within electronic or other forms of medical record keeping.
  • Experience utilizing database technology and EMR (Electronic Medical Records) in a Medical and/or research facility.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsible for data management for a group of BMT patients defined by the BMT-CI Data Specialist Lead and/or BMT-CI Data Supervisor.
  • Abstracts patient information and enters data into the BMT-CI Moffitt proprietary database.
  • Participates in quality control procedures.
  • Coordinates related donor clearance/eligibility on Moffitt side.
  • Participates in BMT Program educational activities as well as other opportunities to maintain data management competencies.
  • Prepare reports for meetings and academic or research abstracts.

  

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Health Sciences, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, or related field required; or 4 years of BMT experience or clinical chart abstraction in lieu of Bachelor’s degree; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of clinical data abstraction and/or data management experience navigation electronic or other forms of medical record keeping.  
  • Requires knowledge advanced MS Office applications i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio.
  • Demonstrates attention to detail in producing accurate and high-quality deliverables.
  • Self-motivated with ability to prioritize multiple tasks and multi-task under tight deadline with little oversight.
  • Must be an independent team member that is engaged, proactive, and highly motivated.
