Summary

The Technician in this position will perform research into how the human microbiome impacts health disease. Cultureomics of the human eye will be a primary focus of this position. Additional responsibilities include conducting experiments using human intestinal microbes and their characterization. The Technician will become well-trained in state of the art techniques for studying host: microbiome interactions. Performs the routine elements of research work that requires the use of skills, technical and academic knowledge to follow established procedures and record results.

Job Duties

  • Performs routine technical laboratory procedures in molecular biology and microbiology, including but not limited to various complex media preparation, plating and processing of microbial samples, isolation and purification of strains, DNA extraction, PCR amplification, gel electrophoresis, qPCR, growth curves. 
  • Maintains electronic laboratory notebook, records, and analyzes experimental data. 
  • Assists in the collection and preparation of human intestinal samples. 
  • Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and manuscripts.
  • Assists in operating and maintaining anaerobic and microoxic chambers.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Experience Required: None Required.

Preferred Qualifications

  •  Laboratory experience in Microbiology and strain isolation strongly preferred.
